Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
Ryder Architecture
The site is located in central London at Guy’s Hospital which is situated in the London Borough of Southwark. The hospital is governed by the Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT). The site is in close proximity to The Shard and London Bridge Station.
The proposed site is constrained on three sides by existing hospital buildings. These include the 34 storey Guys tower to the rear, the five storey Southwark wing to the north and the two storey Heatherwick clad Boiler House to the south. Across Great Maze Pond, the fourth elevation, is the recently restored Boland House which contains the Science Gallery.
The building originally would contain outpatients’ accommodation, a surgical facility consisting of eight theatres with supporting accommodation and an education / study centre. This brief has been amended as follows:
The outpatients’ accommodation on the ground floor has been removed from the scheme - this was the only part of the project which included refurbishment to the existing tower building
The top floor of surgical accommodation (level 5) will not be fitted out
The education / study floor (level 6) will not be fitted out
