Redesign Huguenot House: Leicester Square Busking Centre (2021)

The project aims to redesign a public house Huguenot House which is a mixture of residential and commercial use for the Council owned asset, locating in a prominent Central London island location just off Leicester Square. I am redeveloping it as a cultural performance center 24/7.

Regarding to the research, the civic awareness of public demand is increasingly strong under the current situation of land privatization, especially the conflicts between council constraints, and street entertainers. The purpose is to eliminate the contradictions between privatized ownership of public space and the public's needs of freedom. Instead of the original enclosed space, the new functional immersive performance structure, which is also an attractive public space that respects the scale, history and the future urban culture in London. The performing stage can be the intermedia to strengthen the connection between the building and the audiences in order to stimulate the potential of the site.

The proposal responds to the critique with the contradiction caused by the distribution of functional areas and the project can not only satisfy with the daily activities of the audiences, but also improve the urban problems of the site through the architectural language.
